Crisis Hotline

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU COME TO THE NPC?

Sign in at the front desk. The greeter will ask you to fill out forms that give information about yourself and permission to treat you. You will need to show a picture ID and proof of insurance, if you have it. You will be helped even if you don’t have insurance.

Next, a nurse will see you. The nurse will take your vital signs and do an initial crisis screening. If you are not in crisis, we will give you a list of places where you can go for help.

If you are in crisis, a social worker will meet with you to do an in depth interview. Next, a doctor will then see you and evaluate your medical needs, including medication.

You may be at the psychiatric emergency services up to 23 hours. At any point during this time, if you get better (stabilized), you may be released. If the psychiatrist decides that you need more care, you may be transferred to a longer term service. These services include the MHMRA Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU), Crisis Residential Unit (CRU), or Harris County Psychiatric Center.

Any person receiving emergency services has access to a phone to make local outgoing calls.
