than 850 families served by the Furniture Bank
Provided furniture and other furnishings to 492 MHMRA consumer
families and 358 families from partner agencies of the Furniture
Bank.
Raised funds to expand the Furniture Bank program
Raised more than $3,500 from events such as the International
Interior Designers Association annual benefit dinner. Proceeds
were used for the expansion of the Furniture Bank program.
Value of donations exceeds $650,000
Collected public donations of furniture and furnishings valued
in excess of $650,000.
Adult and Juvenile offenders perform community service
at Furniture Bank
Entered into collaboration with the Harris County Probation
Department’s Community Restitutions Program whereby juveniles
and adults could perform community service by helping at the
Furniture Bank.
Donations of clothing to homeless valued at nearly $15,000
Collected and organized donations to the Bristow Center clothing
room that were valued at $14,843. Consumers of services at
the homeless-rehabilitation facility received 7,550 pieces
of clothing and hygiene items.
Families benefit from holiday gift program
Distributed gifts to 316 consumer families through Adopt-A-Family
holiday project. Seventy nine individuals and corporations
adopted a total of 101 families and/or made donations. These
donated gifts, food, and more than $2,200 in cash contributions
were used to serve the remaining families.
Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week
Helped organize and sponsor Children’s Mental Health
Awareness Week, a week in which each day is sponsored by a
different social service agency. MHMRA sponsored the kickoff
day of the event at the Children’s Museum with the mayor
of Houston as guest speaker.
Generated publicity valued in excess of $3 million
Publicized the agency and its programs in newspaper articles
and in radio and television interviews. The FY 2001 value
of this publicity is $3,012,508, or an average of more than
$250,000 a month.
