Raised more than $125,000 from the third annual benefit dinner. Funds raised are used for the expansion of the Furniture Bank program.

Juvenile Offenders Assist Furniture Bank as Community Service
Entered into collaboration with the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department whereby juveniles could perform community service by helping at the Furniture Bank.

Adopt A Family Assists 365 Consumers, Families
Matched 190 families to donors and distributed donations of non-perishable food, gift certificates, toys, and clothing to 175 other families through the holiday charity.

Nearly 850 Volunteer Hours a Month Benefit Programs, Special Events
Produced, on average, nearly 850 hours a month of volunteer service for programs and special events. An average of 55 people volunteered each month for events such as the grand opening of the NeuroPsychiatric Center, the Houston Children’s Festival, and the agency’s Consumer Conference.

Provided More than 70 Presentations to Community Groups
Provided, through the Speakers Bureau, subject matter experts for more than 70 presentations before a total of more than 7,800 individuals on issues concerning mental health and mental retardation.

Generated Publicity Valued in Excess of $4.5 Million
Promoted the agency and its programs in newspaper articles and in radio and television interviews. The Fiscal Year 2000 value of this publicity is $4,603,324, or an average of more than $380,000 a month.

Introduced, in April, the Internet home of MHMRA of Harris County, www.mhmraofharriscounty.org. The site includes agency news, program descriptions; an event calendar; job postings and related links.

Agency Newspaper Named “Best in Texas”
Honored by the Texas Public Relations Association with a Silver Award, top honors, in the Best of Texas Silver/Spur periodicals category for Interface, the agency news publication. The award cited “achievement in using individual communication tools in support of specific public relations objectives.”
