Research, Evaluation & Planning

Hogg Foundation Grant
Began a three-year assessment of the impact of STAR and STAR+PLUS on children and adolescents with mental illnesses.

Consumer Satisfaction Surveys
Collected and evaluated consumer satisfaction surveys of services on a quarterly basis. Also initiated the collection process of similar data for the NeuroPsychiatric Center (NPC), which will be expanded to cover evaluation of NPC by law enforcement personnel and families and friends of consumers.

Strategic Planning for the Agency

Provided staff support to the divisional Planning Advisory Councils and coordinated the planning process with each PAC.

Annual Local Plan
Completed the annual Local Plan that was submitted by the Board of Trustees to the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation.

CHIP Project Planning
Participated in the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Planning Task Force and provided information about market potential and penetration necessarily for marketing and service planning.

Consumer Housing Study
Completed a study on the positive impact of MHMRA services on consumers’ ability to live in their own home – a part of the mission of MHMRA – and presented the results to the Adult Mental Health Planning Advisory Council.
Committee to Protect Human Subjects
Continued to supply staff support for the Committee to Protect Human Subjects, providing collaborative and liaison work with academic and community-based research programs. Also collaborated in a study by the Veterans Administration-College of Medicine to follow-up on 1,700 adult mental health consumers.

Other PAC, Advocacy Group and Agency Research Projects
Medically fragile persons with mental retardation; costs of mental health services for youths in comparison with the cost of juvenile justice; projected inpatient bed capacity for Harris County; distribution of Medicaid eligible versus Medicaid recipients among persons with SMI; consumer transportation needs and issues; respite needs of families of persons with mental retardation; AMH Team efficiency and effectiveness; data modeling support for AMH revenue, capacity, and team composition; and the impact of the NeuroPsychiatric Center on inpatient bed demand.
