Developmental Checklist: How's Your Baby? Developmental Checklist

Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) serves children, birth to age 3, with disabilities or developmental delays. The services we offer include:

  • Evaluation and Assessment
  • Occupational and Physical Therapy
  • Speech-Language Therapy
  • Service Coordination
  • Family Counseling and Education
  • Developmental Services

Services are provided in child's home or community settings (daycare, foster parent, grandparent, etc.)

ECI determines eligibility for children under age three based on

  • Developmental delay
  • Auditory or visual impairment
  • Medically diagnosed condition including, but not limited to Down Syndrome, Spina Bifida, Autism, Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD)

A parent or professional who has concerns about a child's development can call 713-970-4800 to make a referral for a free developmental screening or evaluation.

Beginning January 1, 2004, families who can afford to pay will share in the cost of early childhood intervention services for their children. The amount a family will be asked to pay will be determined based on their adjusted gross income and their family size, or the actual cost of ECI services, whichever is less. No child will be denied services because of the family's inability to pay. Staff from ECI programs will work with each family to determine their cost share.

Families with an adjusted gross income below 100% of the Federal Poverty Level or who are enrolled in Medicaid, CHIP, food stamps, SSI or TANF cash benefits will be assigned a cost share of $0 and will not have to pay.
